The season kicked-off early with tryouts in late September to assemble a team for a pre-season tournament in October. This year’s team participated in the West New York League, four tournaments, and one independent game. The team compiled an overall record of 12 wins and 11 losses
Bergen Catholic Fall Ball Tournament (10/26/13 to 10/27/13). The Comets went 1 and 1 in the tournament, losing the opening game to CMEK by a score of 40 to 64. The Comets rebounded the next day and beat Wayne PAL by a score of 55 to 41. Jamir Lattimore was selected to the all-tournament team.
Independent Game (12/9/13). The Comets played Lyndhurst. With the game tied at the end of the first quarter, Dasan Jones entered the game at the start of the second quarter and energized the Comets with outstanding point guard play. Nikalos Gojcaj and Nicolas Rosa controlled the boards with aggressive rebounding. The Comets held Lyndhurst to just 10 second half points and won the game by a score of 50 to 27. Noah Rincon had a game high 12 points with Toren Portee chipping in 10 points.
Holiday Slamfest Tournament (12/20/13 to 12/27/13). The Comets won their first pool round game against Clifton then lost the next two games to Randolph and Wayne PAL.
March Madness Tournament (3/8/14 to 3/8/14). The Comets lost a close two-point game to Basking Ridge to open the tournament. The Comets were eliminated after losing the next two games to Wayne PAL and South Orange.
Middle School Showcase (3/23/14). The Comets lost by one-point to OBC Gold and then rebounded and beat Saddle River in a consolation game.
West New York League (1/18/14 to 3/22/14). The Comets finished the regular season with a record of 7 and 2. The Comets entered the double-elimination playoffs as a number two seed and lost a close game to West New York. The Comets had an impressive win over St. Michael’s in their second game of the day. The Comets ran out of gas while playing in the third game of the day and lost to North Bergen.
